FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE LIFE LAB

DONNA ROBB, FACILITATOR

THINKING LIKE A SCIENTIST:   Students used Effervescent Launchers

to complete controlled scientific experiments.  This unit reinforced

logic  and scientific thinking skills including collecting data and

observing patterns, reasoning logically, forming and testing

hypotheses,  developing data analysis and critical thinking skills.   In

addition, students studied and measured angles and were introduced

to complementary and supplementary angles.  They used reading

comprehension to assemble the launcher and metric measurement

to calculate distance.   Students computed averages requiring them

to divide decimals and round off to the nearest hundredth.  Fifth

grade students used Microsoft Excel to display the data in graphic

format.
